Stasny is not the center they need. Cost and term would be too much for a player whose season you'd want out of him was 6 years ago. O'Reilly has nice recent stats, but unless Buffalo is desperate to trim payroll, I think they'd prefer to deal him somewhere other then Montreal.

Mason on waivers
Chuck <barberphoto411@gmail.com>: Jun 30 11:07AM -0700

Had a laugh when a host on Radio 590 said that Bozak is an option for the Leafs if they don't sign Traveres. If they perceive a hole at center that existed with Bozak in the line up, if the only move at center is to resign Bozak, the hole from last year will remain unchanged. So it is likely the Leafs would offer Bozak very little term, since they would try again next year for a premium UFA

Well, it's a good deal from the fan perspective, anyway. Whether Molson likes the idea of spending $2.7M to buy out Mason so that they can add a guy who has basically been a 3rd line winger, who they also probably have to pay another $2M to as a restricted free agent, well that's another story. But it's not my money. :)

Uruguay - Portugal was the first match I saw fully.

Uruguay played tactically superb match with 2 fine goals. Portugal looked more active (well they had an uphill scoreboard more than 80% of whole playtime) but inefficient as Uruguay's defense/lower midfield kept Portugal at the bay easily.

Uruguay has now played (including this Portugal match) seven national team matches this year with 7-0-0 and goals 12-1.

If......... you assign equal weighting for each surface.

But all the really SMART people on rst know that not all surfaces
are created equal.

Recall that God created 7543. And he saw it was good.

And he declared that Grass = 7 points
And he declared that US hard = 5 points
And he declared that French clay = 4 points
And he declared that AO hard = 3 points

He's a joke.

He uses the expression "much better" when it's 11 vs 1 in slams on
one surface and when it's 11 vs 4 on other.

To him, it's all the same.

But in reality, it isn't.

On clay, Nadal is immensely better.
On grass, Federer is significantly better.
On hard, Federer is better.

So they're equal.

I think Federer is better than Nadal on this modern slower grass, but
we've seen peak Nadal give peak Fed all he can handle on grass.
Remember, Rafa made 4 straight W finals and won two of them. He's had
bad luck this decade there. So IMO the gap isn't that great.

I think Rafa is zeroed in on this Wimbledon and is a major title contender.

Djoker's problem is consistency and fitness. I don't think he is physically fit to get through a five setter, at the top of his game Djoker had the ability to maintain the focus for long period of time but that has not happened since 2016.

Problem with this is that AO and USO aren't the same event, even though
on same surface, and this is proven by the disparities we see on some
records. E.g., Joker has 6 AO but just 2 USO, Sampras had 5 USO but just
2 AO, etc.

Yes 'refs' can mean that, but he didn't type refs, he typed 'the ref',
which is the man with the whistle on the pitch.

Well 4 years ago, Ghana vs. USA lasted 100. There was one that was 98m
too, and 2 or 3 were 96 or 97. In 2018 there is the added time caused
by VAR, so perhaps not much of a surprise, though I have no idea if VAR
was used in that match, but it was used during the added time in the
Korea match, which lasted 102m 26s (48m 05s & 54m 21s).

Nothing. The German team is just not that good.

The only reason I do not like American sports is because of frequent time out and non stop commercials. So freaking annoying. And some of these games like baseball and American football can be never-ending snoozefest.

The only sports I love are tennis and football. I do like F1 racing but havent followed it for a while. Same with volleyball!

7543 scores for some notable greats;

Lendl 33
Agassi 33
Becker 32
Edberg 30
Wilander 26

Nadal *not including FO*;

32

So even if you give Rafa *no* credit for FO (retarded) he is still in
the same category as those lower tier greats. If he wins Wimbledon
he'll be in Mac/Jimbo territory even without FO.

Of course not counting FO is only considered reasonable by rst
retards/Fed fans (interchangeable). How about we don't count Fed's 8
Wimbledons too?

Yes, Nadal gets unfairly tag as 'one trick' because he's so amazing at
FO. But his non-FO record is very respectable.

Not as good as Fed's though, Fed still has unreal 12 slams even if you
take out his best slam, nobody else is close to that, every other guy
with 10+ slams gets dropped down to Becker/Lendl territory with their
best slam taken out.

OK. Federer would still be 15 points ahead of Nadal. Djoker without AO would still be also in front of Nadal.

And Djoker also won 6 if you take out AO and 6 points ahead of Nadal in your 7543

France win 4-3. That was a great q/f. Plenty of great goals for the
fans. Hope this standard maintains for the rest of the WC.

Very entertaining match, to the very end. Hope all the R16s are just as
fun to watch.

The once big conceptual problem with soccer is that moment by moment
dominance often isn't reflected in the scoreboard, so that encourages
this kind of play sometimes.

E.g., in basketball, nobody could ever say "our team dominated and
controlled play, but they got a lucky break and won". In soccer (and in
fairness, in American football as well) that can and does happen.

There is no problem in football (soccer). It is immensely enjoyable unless both teams are playing for a draw (happens rarely).

The sport is popular all over the world and is followed feverishly except in US, Canada and Australia. These three countries can take a hike if they dont like the sport. There are 200 plus countries which love it. So fuck off Jaroast.

Ice hockey has similar issue, though to lesser extent, and they have
sometimes made rules changes to encourage scoring.
I recall that ice hockey became extremely low scoring sometimes in late
90s/early 2000's, with 0-0 draws being commonplace in top level
international play. At some point NHL's goal per average actually fell
below that of English Premier League!

Overgrown goalie gear and trap tactics to blame.

2905 NHL got rid of two line pass offside to strengthen the offensive but that opened another can of worms: http://dearsportsfan.com/2015/02/03/nhl-get-rid-two-line-pass-rule/

Yeah, the 'hip-hop gear' got pretty ridiculous at some point...

Yes, some goalies looked like the stay-puff marshmallow man back there.

Does any one care about this Wimbledon. I am picking both Sharapova and Pliskova to go out in 1st round. That way I dont have to watch Wimbledon at and focus on the World Cup instead. Unless of course Federer is playing the final.

Plus Karlovic early on... Rafa again with the luck of the draw. Those in charge want him to go a bit further it seems.

I heard many times that the weather has been very warm and the grass is dry and the court surface is harder, and the ball is bouncing higher. Nadal will make it to the SF at least.
