Well, Shit.
I understand budget caps are a bitch to get right.
But that is not a spot to bargain shop at the
day old and chewed up table!

What a difference a season makes.

One team was predicted
to be a Super Bowl contender. I wonder which one?

The team who just fired their head coach after the game. :) It ain't
the Niners. Pagano was also fired and there's rumor that Caldwell will
be fired by the Lions.

>Yeah maybe that will keep his salary demands down.

>But my guess is he and the agents are expecting at least a deal like
>Derek Carr.

He's got two touchdowns versus the one INT. That's not so bad and he's
still learning the offense. He's going to get his money, no matter
what he does. His agent has the edge in any negotiation, poldy. :)
Besides, the Niners have more than enough money to give him a good
contract.

Carr hasn't lived up to his contract until today's game. :)
John Walsh <jwalsh589@gmail.com>: Dec 31 02:11PM -1000

Dunbar runs it in from 8-yards out. 15 plays, 72 yards. Garbage time
TD.

Niners 34 Rams 13
John Walsh <jwalsh589@gmail.com>: Dec 31 01:53PM -1000

Garoppolo gets his 2nd TD of the game, this time to Robinson. PAT good
by Gould. 7 plays, 53 yards.

Niners 34 Rams 6

Would this game have been as one side with the Rams starters in the
game? Probably not, but the Niners might have still had a good chance
of beating the Rams.

The little boy was lost and they took him into a stall at the Coliseum.
He started screaming when they pulled his pants off and security cuffed
the two fags wearing 49er jerseys.

Lakers had the game with 1/2 minutes to go and blew the ending yet again. 5
guys in DFs and Randle/Ennis with the DDs. Lakers +3 TOs and 70% FT shooting
were enough to lose the game. 142-148 Lakers lose by 6.

I have heard his name bandied about as a possible MB replacement
Chuck <barberphoto411@gmail.com>: Dec 31 05:36PM -0800

What makes Brisbrois a potential candidate ?Name recognition? He has lurked amongst the management of both Montreal and Tampa. With Montreal he was known as a Cap Guru. He has had the tag assistant. But what has he shown to prove his worth as a judge of talent? Isn't he much like MB was with Chicago, that being part of a successful management team. So do we want a GM whose experience hasn't included having his butt on the line when making choices for the future of the Habs. Do we want a GM sure to surround himself with retired players who cling to the past

He passes THE most important aspect - he can parlez vous la ding dong.
Chuck <barberphoto411@gmail.com>: Dec 31 07:56PM -0800

I want a GM that is knowledgeable enough to make the hard choices himself when needed rather then hog tied by any lack of consensus amongst his inner circle (Minions) or feel obligated to give the minions little pieces of the team plan to manage. It's fine to consider advice, but the total ownership belongs to the GM. No loyalties to anything other then the team. So if anyone underperforms, there is never any hesitation to fire the offender, due to any past friendship. A GM only has employees working for him, not friends. Maybe a sign on his door stating "I don't care what you did last year, I don't care about what you can do in the future but I do care about what you can do today, and it better impress me!"
mike <mbutsy@gmail.com>: Dec 31 08:03PM -0800

I wonder if perhaps he might be hired as President. That would be Molson taking a step back and in the meantime allowing Brisebois to supervise Bergevin's dismantling of the team. It would also be greasing the skids for Bergys eventual removal.
Gerry <gerry14@hotmail.com>: Dec 31 03:54AM -0800

Do you think if they had a frank discussion with all the Habs fans that they'd actually conclude that winning is the only thing that matters? Because I don't think it actually does to most Habs fans? Or at least, the vocal majority of "Habs fans" would come out of the woodwork, and to them, winning is definitely not what matters most. But they do buy the tickets, pay the advertising, etc, etc. They may not be the diehards posting 30 years of lamentations on Usenet, but they are still the fans that have the voice that Molson is listening to, and will have to continue to listen to.

I don't think they should fight that particularly battle yet. Claude Julien is a topnotch NHL coach, and there are others like Vigneault, Boucher around, and it shouldn't be impossible to continue operating with the best Francophone personnel at the helm. They do need to be careful not to "settle" when somebody isn't available and never hire a less-qualified guy like Therrien again. And they do need to clean out some of the bloatage in the front office gang of former players. I think they can still run a franco-centric operation, but they do still have to be more careful and run a tighter, smarter, more modern ship while doing so.

Gerry
Chuck <barberphoto411@gmail.com>: Dec 31 06:57AM -0800

Are there any coaches who can be pricks when it comes to motivating and empowering their best players? Or do they all make the same lame moves such as over playing stone handed defence pairings like Petry and Benn, who rely on random chance when trying to move the puck, taking a line that has worked well, removing Deslauriers in order to give Froese some playing time despite the fact the problem is all the other line combos he can come up with?

I see Max Pac is beginning to crack, it would be nice to see him lose it, and publicly state what he really feels about his team's "system"

and to make matters worse, when the Habs finally do have an opportunity
to assemble a defensive squad with great puck movers or skaters, they
get rid of them - Subban, Sergachev, McDonnagh, Markov - buh bye. Take
that skill elsewhere, you dont fit the mould. Or should I say mold :-)

When this season is over if the assistant coaching staff isn't let go
then it might be time to start rooting for the Leafs. As far as Bergevin
goes, I don't see how he survives them missing the playoffs and doing so
in the fashion they are.

Yep, the Preds and Vegas have been my guilty pleasures
so far this season.

A Nashville-Vegas Western Conference Final (aka Cup semi)
would be the best, although I'd cringe if they put Malcolm
in goal instead of Fleury for a game.

Tampa Bay vs. the winner between Preds and Knights. Yep,
that's all there is to look forward to now that the Habs
have all but tanked.

Nyssa, who just wishes the Vegas games weren't on so late

The Rams intercept Garoppolo again and Mannion gets off a 50-yard

seconds to go.

That's a problem Garoppolo has to work. Garappolo tried to hit Goodwin
deep and was intercepted by Peterson who took it back to the Niners
22. Up to the Niners defense to stop them or hold them to a FG.

Good thing the Niners are facing Manion at QB. He's ineffective as the

Yeah maybe that will keep his salary demands down.

But my guess is he and the agents are expecting at least a deal like
Derek Carr.
John Walsh <jwalsh589@gmail.com>: Dec 31 12:03PM -1000

The Rams couldn't make much out of Garappolo's INT and settle for a
FG. The Niner defense isn't giving up anything to the Rams, on the
ground or in the air.

That was because Montana manipulated the secondary with plays designed
by Walsh. With Rice and the others, they went under the coverage and
blew past them. It was never a deep passing offense, right? YAC.

The receivers and the TE's have really benefited from having Garoppolo
at QB. The draft sites seem to be loaded with good TE's and WR's, so
there's depth there.

I'd concentrate on the linebackers and secondary, throw in for a
couple of running backs and examine the OL.

Wilson needs a rebuilt offensive line and a running game. Beathard

The coach and GM would be labeled the most worst duo in NFL history
if they let Garoppolo get away. He's a keeper. With Jimmy at QB, the
WR's have also looked like keepers, well at least two of them. Same
for the TE's. That leaves RB free agents to be addressed, plus the
OL.

The defense has been better so they can keep whichever spots they
think are worth a new contract. DL?
