What's supposed to be wrong - other than Zverev simply playing better...

He screwed a perfect tournament for himself in Cinci, and played in a court that doesn't go with his game.

Now I doubt he will play Cinci and he hurt his chances in US Open

We are actually hoping he isnt injured and just got beaten fair and square.

It doesn't matter what you think, I hope he will be fine for the US open.

He was not bending with the back to return serve and avoiding the lower left side of his back in any movement.

It doesn't mean that at all. Something was wrong with Federer(he was serving 20km less than he normally does) but maybe he felt a twinge and didn't want to press it for a Masters 1000? He's OLD for a pro tennis player!

Dev Patel with his exercised physique is an incongruous Ramanujan. Other than that he acted well. Jeremy Irons acted very well. I will watch it a second time and then we can discuss more :)

Even before Roger got injured, was looking pretty darn formidable. Has not yet proved himself at the slams yet, but has improved by leaps and bounds since JCF joined his team.

5 setters are different. The field is more diverse. Lots of unknown surprises. USO is building up to be Zverev's breakout slam, just like Djokovic and Murray many years before him. But he has to prove himself. He beat Djok this year in a clay masters only to crash out in the 1R in Roland Garros.
SliceAndDice <vishalkn@gmail.com>: Aug 13 02:31PM -0700

Why is the idea laughable? Zverev is unbeaten on hard courts this summer so far.

High risk game with very tiny margins.

Why not?
OK, people like you would be out of power. But wouldn't that be a good thing?

Zverev wins. Bizarre self-destructive play by Federer from 3-3 second set onwards.

Is he building up Zverev to let him down where it matters?

Plus returning position, which was hardly seen before : standing straight as any capital I :-/

Zverev won 6/3 6/4
Congrats for an amazing start in this match, and becoming the second player to get more than a single M1000 under the Big4 tyranny !
SliceAndDice <vishalkn@gmail.com>: Aug 13 02:24PM -0700

Come on, he was clearly injured and Sascha was too good today. Why are you looking for convoluted reasons? :)

Fed's giving his loser's speech in fluent French. Doesn't seem bothered by the loss one bit. Great to hear. :)

Well, the big 4 was not there. Djokovic was not playing. Nor Murray. Nadal doesn't play well in this part of the season. Only had to beat old, stiff Federer. But he got it done.

Interestingly "out of sorts" Nadal beats Zverev (AO 2017), while "out of sorts" Federer loses to Zverev (Montreal 2017).

history-phobia-on.html?m=1>

The latest victims of German humorlessness and historical
vindictiveness are two innocent Chinese tourists who were
arrested recently by the German Gestapo for making a couple of
jokey Hitler salutes in front of the Reichstag building as they
took photographs with the cell phones.

The Chinese men, aged 36 and 49, probably knew a bit about German
history, as comics featuring Hitler are quite popular in the
East, where he is seen as a pretty cool guy, and thought this
would be a good way to signal how familiar they were with German
culture.

Anyway, because Germany continues to experience such extreme
"history phobia," these innocent visitors from the East were
hauled off "Tienanmen Square style" to the cells of the Berlin
Stasi, from where they were released on bail of ?500.

As they could potentially get 6 months in jail for their innocent
act, I suggest they immediately slip across the border into some
other EU country and fly back to China, where they can enjoy
relative freedom.

Well done Zverev!
