Here's an idea, ladies: Let's put a thousand USD each into an escrow account. Nadal wins
the 2017 Wimbledon Final in straights against Roger Federer, you get the money.
Easy pickings, right? After all, Nadal is *five years younger*, and in absolute top form...

I hear crickets now, and, faintly, "the knees, the knees..."

Klowns.

One would get better odds from agencies than 50-50...

Yes. It's true. Fed didn't play on clay because he didn't believe he
could beat Rafa... He told to Henman that 'I've won RG once in 18 tries
and that was without facing Rafa'.

So I think it's totally plausible that Rafa could straight set him.
Not saying that he will but it's not that far fetched considering Rafa's
RG form

Nadal choked in AO, Indian Wells, and Florida? :)

Maybe, who knows.

That's one way of sidestepping the fact that Fed won AO final in 5 and
didn't have confidence to play on clay...

Probably tried to lure Fed to clay...
But Rogie didn't buy it!

Why should Federer at this stage in his career face Nadal on the dirt where Nadal is the king and eff up the mental advantage Federer has from the past four defeats of Nadal and risk injury in the process?

Even if Nadal choked at the AO (which I don't think he did),what happened in the Fedal matches at IW and Miami? How did Nadal do?

Smart move by Federer if you ask me.

You think it's plausible that Nadal will straight set Federer on the grass court of Wimbledon because of Nadal's RG form?

IT WON'T BE A STRAIGHT SET WIN FOR EITHER PLAYER. Take that to the bank.

But Federer will have the confidence to play on his best surface--grass. Will Nadal be able to translate that same RG confidence to grass and if he can, will it be enough to beat Federer if they meet in the final?

I think if they meet in the final it will be another close match and it will probably go the distance or at least to four sets.

Probably so. I'm not at all certain that Rafa gets past early rounds though.

Rafa is choking a lot against Federer and this is not a good sign for any of their future matches.

It's now Federer who applies the pressure to Nadal, by firing winners like
he did in the AO fifth set. Eight BH winner in that set alone, not to mention
the two huge FHs at 4-3, one after a 26-shot rally. A screamer down the line.

Fed hasn't lost to Nadal in 3.5 years.

Rafa obviously served poorly and played tentatively end of the fifth...
choked.

And skipped clay to avoid him...

Since when Nadal chokes three matches against Federer?

I've seen it and did like it. Kirk Douglas and young Gena Rowlands were both really good. Loved Douglas's barroom fight with the one-armed man from "The Fugitive." And did you catch the brief appearance of Carroll O' Connor as the truck driver?

A later comedy-western Kirk Douglas did (can't recall the name) alluded to "Lonely are the Brave" when Douglas goes into a saloon and calls out to the bartender, "Whisky!" Whereupon his horse walks in.

In other news, happy 101st birthday to Olivia de Havilland!

Sure I noticed. Fun addition.

The horse was great too.

Not to mention George Kennedy as the sadistic cop. That guy seems to be
in half of the all great films ever made...

I can barely remember those spiders. Now what were those vampire things on Stargate? Wraiths?

Yes. And they looked nothing like Charlie Sheen.

Makes sense. A higher tax burden on the wealthiest is by no means a total solution in itself. But in order to make things more equitable in ways we've discussed, those tax rates inevitably will go up.

Hell, I heard that Trump's latest Trumpcare proposition would drop now
30 million people off health insurance, not 20 any more.

Also there was some interesting talk about some republican possibly
close to Flynn actually having asked Russia for Hillary's emails. That's
collusion 101.

Then Trump diverted the attention by attacking Morning Joe and haven't
heard about it since... Maddow speculated that that's why Trump did his
outrageously stupid tweets... a diversion.
