I'm sure Shanahan knows Hoyer's limitations but figures he can
work with him, not unlike Walsh working with DeBerg while
waiting for Montana to emerge. However while Cousins would
be an upgrade he is quite far from Montana. Then again so
is every other QB not headed for the HOF.

The Niners have a lot to prove this year. They are thin on experience
and performance in every aspect of the game. I just hope the offseason
hype about Hoyer and the receivers means something good for the
offense. The QB and the receivers were rarely on the same page last
year.

Walsh developed the short game offense because of DeBerg and refined
it with Joe. Montana was not a long passer, but he hit the receivers
perfectly in their breaks. He had the timing down perfectly because
Walsh drilled him repeatedly. 3 step, 5 step, 7 step, repeat. :)
