If I had to pick a great player to win any random match pulled out of a

It sounds like your hedging your answer. Fed or Nadal for life? Let's agree
that either guy would be equally preferred?

Different questions require different analysis. If it's peak Fed v peak
Rafa I pick peak Rafa, if random match v anybody over 10 yrs I pick Federer.

said if he plays same as 2015 he has a very good chance.

stan hit djok off the court in 2015. he can do the same vs nadal. not
that he will but he can.

I don't have a stake in anything. I change my mind all the time about players. For example I used to dislike Azarenka and grew to like her. Thiem is nothing special IMO. He could win a RG title but it's just a likely he won't. He's a real dumb ball basher and I'm not sure he has the killer instinct.

Your point isn't proven. If Thiem does something to impress me, I'll change my tune about him but watching him play vs Nadal in that SF, I thought he was hopeless. Look at the difference between his performance and Ostapenko's. See the difference in their killer instinct?

I suppose I am arguing that their is hope that Thiem may yet mature. He's only 23. But as
I noted his strokes mechanics is a tad weird unlike Stan's whose got both sides and easy
smooth power.

Tennis players make horrendous commentators. They simply do not know when to shut up. E.g. Ms Bartoli.

bottom line to me is that if stan hits hard flat corners, rafa won't
be able to do anything about it. stan is capable of doing that to
anybody and has done it to fed and djok at FO recently.

stan is also capable of losing 3,3,2 tomorrow. contrast to say murray
- murray VS nadal would IMO be 99% odds on rafa winning, likely 3
sets.
