Why this?
And why can someone dislike such a nice person like Graf?

Not bitter but slightly amused.
In which regard has Williams blown past Graf? Number of slams?
Well, that department wasn't important at all so long as it was about MN/CE vs. Court and Graf in the GOAT race. And now suddenly .... ?

Let me guess - MN, CE and SW are Americans?

Apparently Rafa is supposed to be a big favourite against Thiem and
should with 80% certainty according to betfair...

And apparently he is also supposed to win the final with 81% certainty.

Maybe so, but damn Thiem is playing well - plus Wawrinka can be deadly
and Murray can be unpenetrable & deadly. If Rafa wants to win this he
must play his absolute best - no less will be enough. As it should be
for possible crowning to own the greatest record in tennis ever, perhaps
in all sports too.

Hell, why limit it to sports? It would be the greatest event in Europe since the French Revolution. But why limit it to Europe? Probably the most momentous event on Earth since the K/T extinction event. But why limit it to Earth? There was the Big Bang and now Rafa on the verge of his 10th FO. Wow...I mean, just....wow.

Except for it being on clay.

Agreed. Go Stan! Murray's virtue is consistency and doggedness. Stan has
outstanding shotmaking. There's a higher probability of Wawrinka upsetting
Rafa than Murray, though Murray did beat Rafa on clay last year.

I think Murray is more likely to upset Rafa. Stan could do it on a
perfect day - but he could also be slaughtered 3,2 and 0.

Bettors think Stan is the slight favourite... I would say that Murray is.

What's wrong with 'if Murray won'?

If he gets himself together again, he may be able to win two more or so. That's it. He probably won't surpass Nadal let alone Federer. Federer's slam record is off the menu for him.

I'd say Djoker has a better claim to GOAT status than Rafa if he gets to 14.
He has a better slam distribution, far more weeks at #1, a longer reign at #1,
multiple YEC championships etc. Rafa's 50/70 clay titles make him look like
a one-trick pony no matter which angle you look at it from.

"Slam distribution" is bullshit. Just another way of trying to deny that
Rafa would own the greatest record in tennis ever. One can not do
something remarkable with good 'distribution'. You sir do not understand
sports records at all.

Tilden won his first slam at 27, last at 37.
Rosewall won his first at 18, last at 36.

Age is no excuse.

Peak Djokovic against mentally beaten Nadal:

2012 Monte Carlo Masters Clay Final Nadal
2012 Rome Masters Clay Final Nadal
2012 Roland Garros Major Clay Final Nadal
2013 Monte Carlo Masters Clay Final Djokovic
2013 Roland Garros Major Clay Semifinal Nadal
2013 Canada Masters Hard Semifinal Nadal
2013 US Open Major Hard Final Nadal

Sure... the guy finally managed to win RG because Rafa was playing crap
- and after that title Djokovic never touched a tennis racket. What a
legend.

Hey, you can't want Fed to have everything.

Has that ever happened? Ever?

Stan , Rafa and Thiem are yet to lose a set.

I suspect that at at least three of them will lose a set.

According to Betfair Nadal is 86% likely to lose a set.
65% likely to win the tournament.

Does not compute.
