So if Methot fetches only a 2nd in 2020 and a prospect just picked in the 7th round, I wonder what that says about Emelin's value?
I'm frankly a little shocked that Vegas only got that much for Methot. It makes me think the Sens doth protest a bit much, or at least their fans do... because at that price tag they could have easily retained him. That or, the Knights drastically underestimated what the post-expansion market would be like - as most of us did - but then, why trade him now? A few days before the free agency window is not really what you'd expect to be the prime market value. It's not a great UFA market either, but you have to think teams would rather try to sign somebody for just $$$ first, before trading for one.
Guessing Vegas wants to do something with their cap space in free agency too... they were up over $70M immediately after the draft. Maybe that somehow didn't leave them room to sign free agents they wanted? So they had to dump a couple D like Methot and Schlemko now, at far below the price they had originally hoped to get.
What big name free agents are even out there who would swallow that much cap space? Oh wait, I know one... Radulov. :)
Well, Vegas is expected to sign Dadonov on July 1st too, but I'm thinking he's more of a $2.5Mish guy, not a big contract at this point.
So anyway, maybe Emelin's trade value actually isn't going to be very high after all.

Methot has history of helping his partner play better while Emelin needs to carried by his

I wonder who Methot's partner was in Columbus? I don't remember him having a particularly high reputation until... he paired with Karlsson. I wonder who really helped who in that. But Dallas should be a good similar fit if he gets to play with Klingberg instead, say. Complementary styles again.

Dadonov/Radulov/Shipachyov - pretty good 1st line right there boys.

Vegas should totally sign Yakupov too... I mean, what better place than an expansion team in Vegas to roll the dice? He'd probably cost them almost nothing, no risk for a former 1st pick.
And Gusev coming next year. Russian Roulette.

Emelin will only have value at the trade deadline as playoff press box depth. Till then he will entertain Vegas fans with highlight reel checks.
