Yees, that's Trent Brown OT attending a pass rush summit. Makes sense
since the Niner OL wasn't all that good at stopping the pass rush.
Ranked 28th in the NFL, none of the starters were highly ranked.

The pass rush? Ranked 23rd in the NFL. The defense in general terms
wass ranked 28th.

Digest for alt.sports.basketball.nba.la-lakers@googlegroups.com - 1 update in 1 topic

$Bill <news@todbe.com>: Jun 30 06:52PM -0700

Sparks a little slow out of the blocks, but stepped it up in Q2/3 to open as
much as a 20 pt lead before giving a bunch back in Q4. 5 players with DDs and
CP3 with the lone DD and Nneka with a poor shooting night managed to get her DD.
Sparks haven't beat ATL since 2009 when on the road managed to end the streak.
1 home game Sun and back on the road on Thu. 85-76 Sparks win by 9.

So we'll soon have all the answers right?

It sure seems like with this interview period we have a lot more idea already about a lot of signings. I don't remember it being quite this extensive before. I think I've seen plausibly supported reports on where basically every FA goalie is going. There are an awful lot of cases where players have definitely been linked to certain teams already, and even in a few cases where terms of contracts are suggested. It feels a little like the expansion draft where we effectively had the whole Vegas team leaked out beforehand.

I guess it's good for the players, but it does take some excitement away from Frenzy day, maybe?

l8r,
Gerry

I think there will be plenty of unpredictable moves going down and going down quickly once the 12 noon starting time is crossed. The speed of confirmed transactions will have been driven by the interview period
zip by <kilgore@trout.com>: Jun 30 10:28AM -0400

I can't count the number of times last season where Radulov would dig
the puck off the wall, spinerama and back hand a perfect pass to the
front of the crease. Of course nothing happened because under MT game
plan no Habs were permitted to battle in front of the net.....

But it makes me wonder, if Radu was so consistently trying to set up
his fellows maybe he should be handed the job of centering the top
line.

What say you?
Gerry <gerry14@hotmail.com>: Jun 30 08:03AM -0700

Hmm, I dunno, I find he's so effective at digging for pucks and protecting pucks too, and I like him at wing. I'm also not sure if he's got the defensive attention span they'd want out of a center... he does work hard and mind his responsibilities when he's paying attention, but other times it's not his priority, which I think is totally fine for his role, but he might draw more flak for it if he was a center.

But it's always worth asking him and considering options, if they don't find any other solutions.

Oh wait, except tomorrow he might sign with a different team.

I can just see the Habs picking up guys like Joe Thornton, Scott Hartnell, Karl Alzner, Francois Beauchemin, and feeling like they pulled off a major coup. (Yeah, if it was 2010 maybe).

My personal opinion is that the Habs will not be signing him. He'll
probably end up in Vegas.

Well, it looks like the bargain bin might be fuller than usual with buyouts today on the last day of the buyout window. I'm sure they'll have no trouble replacing Radulov, right?

Plekanec only scored 3 more points then Grigorenko last season. Too bad they couldn't ditch Plekanec replacing him with Grigorenko, who may still have some potential when compared to Plekanec who is 10 years older and past his best before date
Gerry <gerry14@hotmail.com>: Jun 30 05:02PM -0700

If I had an expansion team and had elected to basically tank, for sure I'd have some 1-year bargain offers out there to Grigorenko and Yakupov.

Devante Smith-Pelly & Michael Cammalleri.

Cammalleri will get more goals than Radulov. He may be a 2nd best and
had a good price.

Cammalleri has missed a lot of games with injuries since he left the Habs... I guess my first concern with him would be a check on his health. Obviously he's healthy enough to get bought out and play, but are there lingering chronic issues or weaknesses etc?

If he's ok physically, and you, hmmmmm, needed to replace some scoring on the wing (we don't know any teams that might be in that position tomorrow do we????) then maybe something like a 1-year show-me $1M deal would be worth considering. IIRC, Cammalleri didn't leave on good terms at all, but it's not Pierre Gauthier anymore, so presumably that wouldn't be a factor.

I'm not surprised by Smith-Pelley. He could have been an NHL player. When he actually dials himself into the game consistently, he contributes and is effective in his role. But those periods are sooooo few and far between. The little burst after the trade was a great example. And then he disappears for a whole year.

Florida is really stripping themselves down too. The talk of trading Demers, maybe he can be had a whole lot cheaper than previously thought? It sounds like the Panthers have budgetary issues atm. If they are taking themselves out of the race in the East, so much the better.

The quicker Jagr is signed could indicate
1 Jagr really wanted to go there, and wasn't interested in listening to alternatives
2 Some team foolishly offers a truck load of cash
3 A feel good move to appease fans who would not be happy if the team did next to nothing on UFA day

I don't think you'd ever be able to trade for Draisatl. They are looking at having their Crosby/Malkin duo locked in, and I don't think there is any package of any of our players that could get their interest in a trade.

Now, I don't actually think a $12M contract offer would get Draisatl either. No matter how you structure it with clauses and money stacked into annual signing bonuses and all that, they are still going to match. But at least at that point it becomes a question that they have to bounce to ownership and at least think about in terms of financial considerations and their ability to build a contending lineup given some of their other growing salary commits (RNH, Lucic, their top 4 on D, Talbot - they will have to go hmmmm, anyway).

But per TMA's post, I'd say so what, go ahead and rattle the chains anyway. I don't see how other NHL teams wouldn't consider doing this, especially division or conference rivals who would rather not see a dynasty grow in Edmonton. Throw a wrench in their plans, even if that wrench is limited to them having $25M on their two best players. For the Habs, they have the other angle of acute long-term need of a player just such as Draisatl, so why not try to get one. It's supposed to be a competitive league. Compete, ye GMs! Compete *against* eachother.

It was pretty difficult to get fired at the company I worked for.
People who deserved a second chance got one - and sometimes a third
chance.

The union was from TN to the Gulf - from KY north no union. And no
union in the office. It was the most enjoyable place to work and the
highest paying in the area. From supervisor up we were almost
obligated to participate in one or more civic endeavors and the
company carried a lot of weight - even nationally.

| I do place a premium on honesty, however, and thus should confess

|
| I don't think Williams would crack the top 1,000 men.

Jeff Zucker is absolutely right when he says CNN is being
attacked. Just because he told staff to forget about the Paris
climate story and get back to Russia; just because he fired three
reporters because of a threat of a phoney-baloney lawsuit; just
because he tacitly admits that the Russia story is a nothing
burger; it looks like he will be made a scapegoat when the big
merger goes through.

It's so unfair.
