Rams are 7-8 and just beat the Seahawks. Not a good team but
not embarrassing themselves the way the 49ers are this year.

Wow, Grant climbs on Dad's gravy train. I know Tomsula isn't
everybody's idea of a polished coach, easy with the press and literate
to a fault, but he got handed a bad team that only got worse through
injuries and retirements.

You can't improve a team that way, you can't expect to win that way.
Hell, they're still putting people on IR and looking for bodies. I
think he should get another year and a chance to put a full, healthy
team on the field, then chuck him out the door if they don't improve.

If they fire him fine. But that means another coach and another system
with team that's not complete. What's going to happen then? Hire Chip
Kelly? If Harbaugh worked, see if the next coach from Stanford will
fill the bill. :)

Polished coach? Doesn't win championships. Competence, stability
and a staff that knows what it is doing are some of what is necessary.

Jed York and Trent Baalke discarded that, now look.....

You mention David Shaw? Why would he want to come to the 49ers?
There are much better options available for him.
"Gary Rosen" <garymrosen@comcast.net>: Dec 31 09:18PM -0800

Two reasons why it doesn't matter if they keep Tomsula or not:

1. Jed York
2. Trent Baalke

- Gary Rosen

OT - what is going on at Texas A&M?
Does anybody have a good idea?
Pretty respected program that had a fairly good year,
went 8 wins 4 losses and got invited to pretty fair
bowl game.
But then the number one quarterback transfered away
to another school.
And even more amazing then, the number two quarterback
also left.
The number three guy is good, but had lack of experience
and confidence - they lost to Louisville.

Bill Walsh in his first year had the 5th best ranked offense and Tomsula has 31 or 32 ranked worst everything. Jim Tomsula is more suited for sleeping in his car, and then during the day hulking around half bent making gorilla noises.

76ers-Lakers Preview (20160101)
By TAYLOR BECHTOLD Posted Dec 31 2015 2:03PM

The Philadelphia 76ers believe they're starting to come around heading into
a rematch with the team they defeated to end the longest losing streak in
major U.S. professional sports.

One of these clubs will capture back-to-back wins for the first time in at
least nine months Friday night when the 76ers visit the Kobe Bryant-led Los
Angeles Lakers for the last time.

After falling to an astonishing 1-30, including 0-18 on the road,
Philadelphia snapped a 23-game losing streak away from home with Saturday's
111-104 victory over Phoenix. The 76ers lost by four at Utah two nights
later before pulling off a 110-105 win at Sacramento on Wednesday.

Nerlens Noel led the way with a season-high 20 points and nine rebounds,
while Ish Smith had 18 points and nine assists. Noel has averaged 17.3
points on 22-of-28 shooting to go along with 8.7 rebounds in his last
three, while Smith has put up 18.0 points and 8.3 assists in three games
since being acquired from New Orleans on Dec. 24.

Jahlil Okafor, taken third behind Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell in the June
draft, had 10 points and 10 boards in 19 minutes in his return from a
two-game absence due to a sore right knee.

"I think this team can really go in a lot of different ways," Noel said.
"We're really rolling and coach (Brett) Brown has put us in a better
position to win some games and be productive. It was only a matter of time.
Now it's starting to click."

The 76ers easily rank last in the NBA with 92.5 points per game, but
they're showing some life offensively. They've averaged 103.0 in the past
four, reaching at least the 110 mark twice.

That surge could continue against a Los Angeles team that ranks near the
bottom of the league with a 46.5 defensive field-goal percentage and 107.2
points allowed per game.

The 76ers (3-31), who haven't won back-to-back games since March 18 and 20,
had lost a historic 28 straight dating to last season before celebrating a
103-91 victory over the Lakers on Dec. 1 in Bryant's last game in his
Philadelphia hometown.

Robert Covington had 23 points and hit 5 of 11 from 3-point range, while
Noel contributed 14 points and nine rebounds off the bench. Bryant paced
the Lakers (6-27) with 20 points but was 7 for 26 from the field and 4 of
17 from 3-point range.

Since averaging 15.8 points and 31.3 percent shooting in his first 20
games, Bryant has scored 20.6 with a 40.3 mark over his last nine. Despite
playing better, the future Hall of Famer says there's no chance he'll
change his mind about retirement.

"I feel completely at peace," Bryant said. "Truly at peace. It's time."

Jordan Clarkson had 24 points, former Sixer Lou Williams added 19 and
Russell scored 16 as Los Angeles ended a four-game slide with a 112-104
victory at Boston on Wednesday.

Russell has totaled 34 points while going 6 for 13 from 3-point range in
his last two home games.

The Lakers are looking for their first back-to-back victories since a
three-game run Feb. 22-27. They had won three straight in this series
before the December loss.

Wish they ditched someone else, such as Mitchell. If given the same amount of games, I think Andro would have outscored all the 3rd and 4th liners MT wants to stick with. Other then a last second injury fill I see no reason to put DSP, or Gilbert back in the lineup
Gerry <gerry14@hotmail.com>: Dec 31 07:50AM -0800

I still like all of Mitchell, Flynn, Fleischmann, Byron, Weise, and DSP... just... as bottom-6ers. We get to have 7 of those in the normal scheme of things, so keeping all 6 of those is a-ok with me. Just, if we're going to have issues on scoring lines, that's where guys like Andrighetto and Carr should be slotting in, there don't need to be any bottom-6ers bumped up. (Possible exception of Weise who has been fairly clutch).

Anyway, bottom line to me is that the issue is still with the top tier of players not playing to their ability, and of course with coaching.

If the salaries we have sitting on Emelin and Gilbert are indeed replaceable with league-minimum guys, then it would be nice to see that cap space dropped on a bona fide top-6 scorer somehow.

l8r,
Gerry
Chuck <barberphoto411@gmail.com>: Dec 31 09:30AM -0800

They are stuck with Emelin and his NYC, so that leaves only Gilbert as trade bait. As for the others, I think they should have moved one of them and given Andro a shot at sticking as other then maybe Byron and Wise, the rest will be no better as the season progresses
Gerry <gerry14@hotmail.com>: Dec 31 07:57AM -0800

Good, I'm sure he'll be very disappointed to miss the chance to try to slash Gallagher's fingers.

I always thought BJ was a vast improvement over Trapper. That said, it is sad to see him pass. MASH was such a great show, the casting was essentially perfect, from the beginning, through the replacements. RIP Trapper John.

Hey, that's great fiction. You should consider writing a book. You know--one that doesn't have recipes in it? Because you like food so much and everything.

I can't figure out if you actually believe the bullshit you write or you are just so clouded in your obsessive sociopathic attitude that you don't really care if it's true or not and just want to write it. I know you're a sociopath, an emotionally-stunted twit and you never left high school in your head, but c'mon -- even your two boys are better socially adjusted than you.

It is still hard to beat Jeb's burning through more money than Homer Simpson working a shift as a Stock Broker and being at 3 percent or so in the Primary polls, though.

I think the Doc needs to bow out and hope for a shot at Surgeon General, which ironically might have been an easier prospect for him had he not campaigned this year.

John Bolton is looking smarter and smarter because he decided not to run in this heavily spread field. Lindsey Graham bowing out was a sign of how tough it is to get traction in it, even with serious competence.

Here's Bob Stoops major bowl record:

2001 Orange Bowl: beat Florida State 13-2
2002 Cotton Bowl: beat Arkansas 10-3
2003 Rose Bowl: beat Washington State 34-14
2004 Sugar Bowl: lost to LSU 21-14
2005 Orange Bowl: lost to U$C 55-19
(game vacated due to Reggie Bush ineligibilty)
2007 Fiesta Bowl: lost to Boise State 43-42
2008 Fiesta Bowl: lost to West Virginia 48-28
2009 BCS Championship: lost to Florida 24-14
2011 Fiesta Bowl: beat Connecticut 48-20
2013 Cotton Bowl: lost to Texas A&M 41-13
2014 Sugar Bowl: beat Bama Lama 45-31

"Black Lies Will Matter" <lying-scum@naacp.org>: Jan 01 12:52AM +0100

Two TCU players including starting quarterback Trevone Boykin
were arrested early Thursday morning after an incident at a
River Walk bar where they were heckled by a patron.

Boykin and junior wide receiver Preston Miller were arrested in
an incident at Pat O'Brien's, 121 Alamo Plaza, a bar about a
block away from the Horned Frogs' team headquarters at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel. Both were subsequently suspended later Thursday
morning for Saturday's Valero Alamo Bowl Game against No. 15
Oregon, TCU coach Gary Patterson said.

Boykin was arrested and charged with a felony for allegedly
assaulting a police officer after a fight erupted outside the
bar shortly before 2 a.m.

"We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU
Horned Frogs Nation, Valero Alamo Bowl and city of San Antonio,"
Patterson said, attributing the suspension to a "violation of
team rules."

Team sources indicate that Boykin had been in the team hotel in
time for the Horned Frogs' midnight curfew, but had returned to
the bar afterwards from his hotel room.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said an incident took
place at 1:52 a.m. in the bar when another patron inside the bar
began heckling Boykin.

"Clearly this was not an appropriate way to act," McManus said
of Boykin. "He was heckled and he responded to it."

The argument then spilled outside onto Alamo Plaza, drawing the
attention of several nearby San Antonio bicycle officers who
attempted to break up the disagreement between Boykin and the
person with whom he was arguing, McManus said.

Several of Boykin's teammates attempt to take Boykin back to the
hotel, but he apparently returned and threw a punch, striking
one of the officers, McManus said.

McManus said police don't know whether Boykin was trying to hit
the officer or someone behind the officer.

Both Boykin and the officer fell to the ground, McManus said.

Officers then tried to place Boykin under arrest, but the 22-
year-old struggled and resisted until officers threatened to
deploy a Taser on him, McManus said.

The officer was treated for minor injuries after the incident
including a swollen face, bruises and abrasions, McManus said.

Online police records show Boykin was charged with assault on a
public servant, a third-degree felony. McManus also added that
he faces misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and public
intoxication.

Boykin was released from custody at San Antonio on a $5,000 bond
at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday, according to online jail records.

The arrest will have some big ramifications for Saturday's game,
perhaps the most eagerly anticipated in the 23-season history of
the local bowl.

With Boykin's suspension, he will be replaced in the starting
lineup by second-stringer Bram Kohlhausen or third-stringer
Foster Sawyer against the Ducks.

TCU played without Boykin for 2½ games earlier in the season
after he sustained a sprained ankle against Kansas. Kohlhausen
and Sawyer led the Horned Frogs within a whisker of an upset at
No. 4 Oklahoma as the Horned Frogs dropped a 30-29 decision to
the Sooners.

Boykin, a second-team All-Big 12 quarterback, has struggled
through a disappointing season after coming into the season as
one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy. He had a strong
numbers — 3,575 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, 612
rushing yards and nine rushing TDs — but wasn't in contention
for college football's top award after spraining his ankle and
after the Horned Frogs lost to Oklahoma State the previous week.

It marked the second time in four seasons that the local bowl
has been affected by player discipline issues before the game.
Texas sent quarterback Case McCoy and linebacker Jordan Hicks
home shortly before the Longhorns' 2012 game before Oregon State
for their role in an alleged sexual assault of a woman at a
downtown San Antonio hotel. No charges were filed and both
players were reinstated into the UT program a month later.

The arrest of Boykin quickly caught the attention of gambling
services in Las Vegas. Several oddsmakers have dropped the game
off the board, meaning bets will not be taken on it because of
the incident. TCU had been ranked as a 1-point favorite for
Saturday's game.

The Horned Frogs already are undermanned with the loss of wide
receiver and Biletnikoff Award finalists Josh Doctson with a
wrist injury. Wide receiver Ty Slanina had hoped to return for
Saturday's game after missing most of the season with a broken
collarbone, but he rebroke the same collarbone earlier in the
week.

The arrest could hurt Boykin's NFL draft status, according to
ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper.

"It wasn't strong as a quarterback anyway," Kiper said on ESPN
radio Thursday morning. "He's a day-three type (meaning fourth
round or lower) as a quarterback or a receiver. This will
certainly factor into it. If you are a quarterback and the face
of an organization, something like this happens, it's obviously
an issue. It's something that will have to be evaluated."

The recent issues could call into the question the entire idea
of allowing teams to stay downtown. Could the festive
environment be a bad combination for college football teams?

Heavy Drinking. Rowdy fans. Players hyped for the game. Control-
heavy coaches might prefer to have their teams stay out of
trouble far from downtown if given a choice.

Obviously, Boykin is the one who is at fault. His alleged
transgressions early Thursday morning taints what had been an
impeccable career at TCU. He had just received his diploma after
graduating from TCU three weeks before Saturday's game day.

His contributions to the school would have made him one of the
most storied players in the history of the school. But it
remains to be seen whether his arrest and suspension will taint
that pristine image with the school?

Lay down with black turds, get up smelling like shit.

Stallings held Palmer out of Saturday's 25-8 victory as

In the latest incident, Palmer was charged with driving 75

Stealth Restitution <coons@work.com>: Dec 31 08:46PM

Another draft pick for the New England patriots awaits.

TCU quarterback and Dallas native Trevone Boykin was charged with a felony
in San Antonio early Thursday morning after a bar fight spiraled out of
control.

Like many brawls of its kind, it started with "some jaw jackin' at the bar
about the game" between patrons and members of the team at just before
2am, according to San Antonio Police chief William McManus. The fight
turned physical and spilled outside Pat O'Brien's. When nearby bicycle
cops saw the fight, they intervened. Police say Boykin left the scene and
then returned, and at some point he got into it with police. A police
spokesman says the quarterback punched one in the face and "was finally
subdued after being threatened with a Taser," McManus said.

TCU is playing Oregon in the Alamo Bowl on Saturday. "Trevone Boykin and
[wide receiver] Preston Miller have been suspended for Saturday's game due
to a violation of team rules," TCU coach Gary Patterson said in a
statement. "We are disappointed in their actions and apologize to the TCU
Horned Frogs Nation."

Boykins is believed to have NFL written all over him. The only debate has
been whether scouts see him as a quarterback or a slot receiver. Now it
seems like he has the temper, lack of judgment and ability to generate bad
press that is required of professional football players. The Big Time
awaits.

But first, there's this criminal charge to deal with. The former West
Mesquite High Schooler's charged with assault on a public servant, a
third-degree felony. Bond's been set at $5000.
