Blade runners: 49ers plan for re-sodding at busy Levi's Stadium

"To ease the wear and tear on the grass, the 49ers have installed a
synthetic-turf ring around the playing field. It's 23,000 square feet
and designed to handle both foot traffic and that from heavy equipment
used to stage stadium events."

Might be better to just move to artificial turf and get it over with.
That will of course make the stadium even warm down on the playing
surface.

One of the unspoken problems with the early grass sod was pieces
coming loose and the players sustaining injuries as a result. While
the Niners said it was safe, I'm inclined to believe the players were
a bit tentative in their movements on the surface.
Benard Atkins <batkins700@gmail.com>: May 31 06:06PM -0700

Should Fed get by Monfils, he should get past Stan but I don't see
him go past Nishi.
If Monfils wins, I think it will be a Nishi-Waw SF. Hard to pick a
winner in that.
If Rafa & Murray soften up Djoker, Nishi/Waw could upset Djoker. Esp
Waw who seems to enjoy playing Djoker.

what do you mean by "if" ?
ahonkan <ahonkan@gmail.com>: May 31 10:15PM -0700

I think it's Andy Murray among the men & Alize Cornet among the women.
I have seen Murray pay heavily for his poor dropshots all through
his career, incl the win vs Kyrgios. He neither chooses the right
time to use them nor does he execute them well.
Alize Cornet competes with Murray in this dept. In her match vs
Svitolina, she would gift a hard-fought point by simply unleashing
a dropshot that is perhaps the worst in the game, Murray included.
Her dropshots generally didn't even make it to her side of the net!
Rafa is a master of the drop, Fed isn't bad and even Kyrgios
executed some nice ones too. I think I saw JWT return a Berdych
serve with a dropshot winner last night!

lo yeeon relies on the endless verbiage, probably drawn from a database
for him. Without that he's exposed as someone with a adolescent frame
of mind, literally so naive it's painful.

Actually What China is doing is what everyone else was doing. We are talking about building island and reclaiming land from the sea. Malaysia, Vietnam and Philipines all did well in advance of China about 12-13 years earlier. Vietnam in particular have been drilling for oil in this region for a very long time. China was the only nation that started doing it this year. Talking about freedom of navigation that weren't be a problem for most of the nation that use this sea route for trade and commerce, but what US wants is freedom of navigation for its navy ship, spy jet, fighter jet in this region

When most countries reclaim land, it's in waters that everyone agrees belongs to them. This is obviously not the case with what China has been doing in the South China Sea.

The key point about China from the US point of view is the recognition
that there is no military solution - for just about anything that
China does today, mindful of the fact that China is always very
careful about whatever it does in the international arena.

Indeed, the BBC News made clear that China's claim that it is doing
nothing that other countries are not also doing has factual support -
as even defense secretary Ashton Carter has said as much:
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-32941829

China takes the view that it is doing nothing wrong - and certainly
nothing that other countries are not also doing.

So, even as he barked about the "pace and scale" with which China does
what everybody else has been doing, Carter acknowledged that China has
plenty of company.

He acknowledged that other claimants such as Vietnam, the
Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan had reclaimed pockets of land or
built outposts in the area, ...
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-32941829

If history is any indication, China isn't a country that takes the
business of waging war lightly. Remember, despite the ferocity with
which it defeated Chiang Kai-shek's army, the PLA chose to bide its
time to unite the Mainland with Taiwan, mindful of bloodshed and costs
to the Chinese people. But, remember also that it did not hesitate to
fight the US-led UN military to a draw on the Korean peninsula, when
it felt that the West was testing its resolve and strength. Now, if
the rest of the world did something to China when China was arguably
much, much weaker and could get nowhere in "teaching the PLA a lesson"
back in the stone age of 1950-53, what can they do to teach China
today? Remember that at the time, the US had nukes but China did not.
Nor did it have any communication satellites to aid its intelligence
gathering.

So, China is not a country the former and present colonialists and
imperalists can hope to corral in.

China is averse to the sacrifice a war would bring; but at the same
time, China is not afraid to let you know that she is not to be herded
around like in the days of old.

How in reality will this strategy play out?

I can't tell you what their plan is because I don't know.

But I figure that the PLA will not be afraid to engage in a dog fight
with an intruding foreign plane if the latter is deemed engaged in
intimidation. And if there is such a fight and a plane is lost and
the PLA also loses two pilots, they will be eulogized as patriots just
like we honor those of ours. How many such combats can the US afford
before it will also lose its planes and pilots? China can absorb
losses where the US fears to tread - just like what happened during
the Korean war. Not even Ashton Carter is stupid enough to believe
that China could be intimidated today when his predecessors could not
50-60 years ago. Remember China still has the same PLA, only much
better equipped and vastly modernized. So it will be Mutual Assured
Destruction or MAD if any country wants to use nuke on China so as to
control her.

China will not be controlled by any other nation!

China says what she means and means what she says. She is into
peaceful development and she also has a responsibility to make sure
that she will not be back to the state when everybody in China was
feeling ashamed of being taken advantage of by foreigners, even from
that tiny island nation of Japan.

And that's why even Ashton Carter recognizes that all he can do is
bark - while acknowledging that there is no military solution if we
choose to confront China militarily.

Rafa will probably slaughter Sock. In any case it will be in straights.
Sock doesn't have slightest chance of beating Nadal here as Rafa's form
and confidence seems to be getting better and better each match.

Your theory is still silly. There is no correlation between being a footballer and being controlling. Just when I thought you couldn't come up with anything dumber than some of your tennis theories! ;)

As for Djokovic, there is a dichotomy--on court he can be an obnoxious idiot but off court he seems like a fun person.

I didn't claim that. Football CAPTAIN is controlling by nature. They
don't choose other kind for that...

Yeah, like making his servants aka Becker carry his bags etc...

Your "Maybe" speculation stemmed from ignorance. It is those who
wanted to stop Valentina playing with the TSO who were political. As
quoted in my original message:

"Buoyed by this success, the Ukrainian Weekly now has its sights set
on two other Western concert performers deemed overly sympathetic to
Russia. The ground war in Ukraine sputters on. The ideological
purges here are just beginning."

And it was the TSO which wilted under the political pressure from the
pro-Kiev lobby in North America. In fact, the same Ukrainian Weekly
that is now "[b]uoyed by this success" and "has its sights set on two
other Western concert performers" is using North America to silence
those who are providing an alternative story about Kiev's Orwellian
agenda to crush its own people, calling them terrorists. As I have
also pointed out in a follow-up (to my original post), Valentina told
of how her detractors were calling her a "traitor". In Tom Walkom's
article in the Toronto Sun, the word "abomination" was used.

To supporters of the Ukrainian central government, however, she was
an abomination.

The Ukrainian Weekly, for instance, pointed to a tweet ...

Since she never spoke about politics in her many concert appearances,
there should be no realistic chance that she would be using the TSO
concert stage to do something stupid. (Note that her appearances
probably mean tens of thousands a shot for her. And even if she
didn't care about money anymore, which is highly doubtful, given how
expensive it is to live in the West today, it is unclear what more she
could'a achieved beyond what she had already said or satirized on her
Facebook page.)

So, the only way to understand the cancellation of her performance at
the TSO concert is not because a "nonpolitical organization didn't
want to be associated with" a "political" Valentina. Rather, it is a
form of intimidation. Just as the American academic Ward Churchill
was fired from his tenured professorship at an American university in
the aftermath of 9/11, Valentina is similarly intimidated by powerful
lobbies with the aim of silencing her message.

And you seem to find pig's rear ends to be very offensive, yet one
wonders where you stood, or now stand, with respect to the outrage
Muslims find with literature that makes fun of their Prophet. Of
course, for you, the State Department chosen PM Yatsenyuk calling the
pro-Russian Ukrainians Untermenschen is ok - but pig's rear ends are
offensive. But you have to allow others to have the freedom to be
offended by some other things, that is if you believe in equality and
are honest about what you say.

Finally, the Ukrainian Weekly's political agenda is clear. They are
after a bunch of artists. Who are the next two? Regardless, artists
are not bots. Valentina is a Ukrainian. Does that mean that either
she has to espouse Kiev's "Anti-Terrorist" program to crush those who
are opposing their rule, or she must be silent?

Subject: Valentina (the "traitor") in her own defense ... Re: Clash of
civilizations isn't just between western democracies and the Muslims
anymore... With V Lisitsa, the purge has begun, even if western
culture must go into a deep funk!

Her facebook post explains why she is viewed as a "traitor" by the
powers-that-be in Toronto (and elsewhere). See the excerpt below.

https://www.facebook.com/ValentinaLisitsa/posts/623465447754643:0

Excerpt:
To give you just one example: one of my feats was to confront French
fashion magazine "Elle" who published a glowing cover story about
women in Ukrainian army. After the research I have shown to the
magazine in my Twitter posts that the "cover girl" they have chosen
to show was in fact a horrible person, open Neo-Nazi, racist,
anti-Semite who boasted of murdering civilians for fun! The magazine
issued a written public apology.

I was very proud! But with time my activities attracted a lot of
vicious haters. I was a particularly important "target" because of
being Ukrainian, thus - a traitor. I thought I knew hate - my
playing on YouTube certainly "attracted" a fair share of hate mail.
But I was mistaken. Death threats, wishes for my family to die,
calling me "paid Kremlin wh*re" ... the list goes on and on (smiley).
My haters didn't stop there. Trying, in their own words, to teach me
a lesson, they have now attempted to silence me as a musician.

I am scheduled to play Rachmaninoff Concerto #2 with Toronto
Symphony Orchestra this week. Back in December someone in the
orchestra top management, likely after the pressure from a small but
aggressive lobby claiming to represent Ukrainian community, has made
a decision that I should not be allowed to play. I don't even know
who my accusers are, I am kept in the dark about it. I was accused
of "inciting hatred" on Twitter. As the "proof" , ironically enough,
they presented to the orchestra my tweets containing, of all things,
Charlie Hebdo caricatures depicting lying media!!! We all know what
those who can't tolerate free speech did to Charlie Hebdo
journalists.

Now, the orchestra based in one of the freest democratic countries
is bending over to the same kind of people, helping them to
assassinate me - not as a living person yet , but as a MUSICIAN for
sure.

Yes, Toronto Symphony is going TO PAY ME NOT TO PLAY because I
exercised the right to free speech.

Yes, they will pay my fee but they are going to announce that I will
be unable to play and they already found a substitute.

And they even threatened me against saying anything about the cause
of the cancellation. Seriously.

Take the warriors to win the nba finals....they were -230 or so a couple days ago. It's going to be much higher after a game 1 win, so get in on it.
the warriors are a historically good team this year, and this should be -550 or so. I've made a lot of easy money on the warriors so far, astill have some warriors futures tickets I bought when the playoffs started(at an absurd plus 195).

The cavs are horribly overmatched this series, and there are literally dozens of potential mismatch combinations for them to face this series....especially when the warriors go small.

I understand Nashville is happening. But you can get a fantastic house
in Brentwood for $500K. Far greater than the house you are looking at.
That is a terrific suburb. Is proximity to the city center so valuable
as to cost $250K and more?

Con, but comparing Brentwood in Nashville is apples to oranges. Of course you can....you can also get a far better house in Hoover(probably a fair comparison to Brentwood in parts) less money than this one.

A better apples to apples comparison is: what would this same house in the best part of sylvan park(Nashville) cost? And the answer is the equivalent lot(lot in the best location this size in sylvan park) would be 500k easily....whereas the value of this lot is probably about 300k. That difference is because Nashville is a bigger more vibrant city than birmingham.

It's not so much(for me) a proximity to downtown thing....parts of Hoover are actually far closer to my job. Some people just prefer to live in upscale/affluent neighborhoods that are older and not cookie cutter. I understand that I have to pay a lot to do that....that's just life. It's a trade off. Doesn't make it a good or bad value.

I'm sorry, but that is not a home that I would live in. I know it's in a
nice area but, there are several nice areas around Birmingham that don't
have such inflated prices for such a crappy, small, aged home.

If there is anyway you can bail, you should. You won't be happy there in
the long run, hell, even the short run. You will likely have
claustrophobic attacks while living there. I thought you were getting
something nice, Mike?
